I have to admit I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately or leave many comments on all of your beautiful posts. I have been quite busy working on client projects and this blog has taken a bit of a back seat. Please know that I'm still here and am not going anywhere! I may not be writing a new post daily, but I'm ok with that. My business comes first and I am thankful for your support. I have some exciting things coming up soon that I look forward to sharing with you! Thank you all for your patience and understanding. I truly appreciate each and every one of you! Do you have a hobby?

I love to cook and bake and most say I'm quite good at it. I think it's in my blood as my grandparents owned 13 restaurants when I was growing up. My mom and I would spend a great deal of time in the kitchen together and it truly brings me so much joy! I made this Tuscan Lemon Chicken more than once and it is divine!

What's worse, failing at something or never trying to begin with?

I say hands down, never trying to begin with. If you don't take the chance and follow your dreams, you'll never know what the future holds. What are you waiting for?

Would you rather be a great cook or a great designer?

A great designer. It is my job after all!

If you could only have two rooms in your house, which would they be?

My kitchen and my bedroom.

Which 2 famous people would you choose to have dinner with?

You all know one will be Ina Garten, no surprise, and the other would be the cast of Downton Abbey. Yes, I know that's a lot of people, but I bet it would be interesting and fun!

What are four words that describe you well?

Best book or two that you read in the last year?

I read a lot of design books, so there are too many favorites to count. I did read Tina Fey's book on the flight back from High Point Market and almost burst out with laughter many times. I tried to hold it back so I wouldn't be escorted off the plane.

What do you miss most about being a kid?

Being carefree. I had a really great childhood, so there are many wonderful memories.

Here's my 4th grade school photo, circa 1978. I could really rock a bow front blouse back then!

Yes, those are braids on each side of my head, too!

If you had a freaky Friday experience and had to trade places with one person, who would it be?

Can I choose Ina Garten again? Do you think her home/barn and all of her darling friends would be included as a package deal? Plus, you can join be for a drink on her patio!

Describe a perfect day from morning till evening...

A wonderful breakfast where calories don't count, a little time at the spa, coffee and/or lunch with a friend, shopping, a walk with my dogs, a nice dinner out and in bed at a decent hour. Funny how I had to make sure good food was in my answer three times. : )

A place in the world you have never been that you would love to go...

Italy! Planning a trip for 2013 with my sister. It can't come soon enough. Actually, it would be sooner if she could get more time off from work this year! Oh, and I want to stay at JK Place in Florence while I'm there! A client of mine stayed there this week. So jealous! I told her to take lots of photos for me.

Score - Floor Model Sale

I stopped by Restoration Hardware today to return some rug and wood finish samples for client projects. I had no idea they had a floor model sale going on {they don't advertise this} and I scored two of these chairs for the ends of my dining table. They will be the perfect compliment to my other chairs! If you have a RH store by you and you need furniture for a bargain, I suggest you run to the nearest location. Most of it is 50% off! They said everything sells in the first few days, so get moving if you're interested! Too bad I can't bring them home for about 3 weeks. I have to wait until they set the floor with their new spring merchandise.

Going Green

I've always loved the color green. It's fresh, clean and vibrant. While I couldn't have my entire house decorated in this color, I do like a few pops of it here and there, even if it's subtle.

I love how the gorgeous piece of art done is shades of green pulls this room together.

I met up with my dear friend Monika from Splendid Willow last Friday night to catch up and hear about her recent trip to Sweden. We had such a great time talking and laughing over drinks and more food than we care to admit ordering. She pulled out a box from her bag and presented me with this gorgeous acorn vase. I cannot even tell you how much I adore it. Since acorns aren't in season right now, I placed a flowering branch in it and set it on a stack of my favorite books. Isn't it lovely?!

Even the packaging from the store was so beautiful. I'm a sucker for great packaging!

Come October, when acorns are in season, I'll be placing one in my vase to watch it grow.

The simple beauty of it is so captivating.

Around The House: Gallery Wall

My dear friend Sarah has turned her love of art into an online store called Gallery Wall. Have you seen it? Pure gorgeousness in every single piece. I cannot believe they are only $10 each!!! I purchased two favorites from her and am so in love with them. After searching at least 7 stores for the perfect gold frame, I took her suggestion of spray painting simple Ikea frames in gold. I have never spray painted anything before and could not believe how easy it was! She adds new pieces to her store often, so be sure to take a look a buy one, or many, for your own right here!

Once again, bad lighting in my house this morning as well as a not so great photographer behind the lens.

I really need to check myself into a good photography class!

Wednesday White

How about a good dose of white to start your Wednesday? There's nothing like the clean, crisp and fresh appeal to this favorite color. Even on the dreariest of Seattle days, white can brighten up any day like nobody's business.

I love white bedding and I know what you're going to say... it shows the dirt. It's actually the easiest color to keep clean with one simple thing and it's called bleach. For someone with two small dogs who love to nap on the bed, my white bedding looks as good as it did the day I brought it home. Just say yes to white! This is not my personal bedroom, by the way.

How incredible is this white kitchen and those shelves! Stunning!!!

You know how much I love a white bath. Hello, dreamy shower!

Love the look of white chairs and want to keep them clean? Slipcovers do the trick every time!

Easy to remove and wash or take to the cleaners.

I am thrilled to have Sherri from Sherri Cassara Designs (formerly Inside Out Design) here today. Sherri is a talented interior designer who also creates beautiful weddings and parties, too! Styling - Part 2

So happy everyone enjoyed the photos and tips on styling yesterday. I had a few requests to see a well styled vignette in a larger room setting, so here are some lovely examples on where to put a little more style in your home.

A classic example of a well appointed bedside table. A beautiful lamp, a small piece of art and fresh flowers. I especially like the small bench/stool placed under the open table. The extra layer it provides really takes this look to the next level.

Victoria Hagan, always been a favorite designer or mine, creates beautiful vignettes. The table, like the image above, holds a lamp, fresh flowers, a mirror placed on the wall above and I love the pair of small benches under the table. Use a rug with pattern to give the space a textural element. It's all about adding layers to make the room interesting and inviting.

Instead of placing one piece of art on a wall, consider stacking multiple pieces to give the wall more height. I think this one is so beautiful with the art light placed above. Search local antique stores, flea markets and etsy for art that speaks to you. You don't need to spend a lot of money either. Just buy what you love and you'll never regret the purchase.

One of my favorite bedrooms. Your bedside table doesn't always have to be drawers only. Consider one with open shelves and place beautiful design books, a simple bowl, a keepsake box and a pretty lamp. Notice the constant in each image... fresh flowers!

Just because you work at a desk doesn't mean it has to be bland and boring. Aerin Lauder's desk is a stunning example of how to take your work space to the next level. Place a favorite candle, an attractive container for pencils, a pretty object and once again... a lamp and fresh flowers.

Don't ignore the laundry room. Place detergent, clothes pins and dryer sheets in pretty glass containers and add a small potted plant to complete the look. See how adding a gorgeous wallpaper and lantern make this room shine?! Who wouldn't be happy doing laundry in a space like this!

I know some of you are thinking... fresh flowers can be expensive and I can't afford to have them in my house all the time. Just walk out your front door and cut something from your yard. It can be a flowering branch in the spring, a cluster of boxwood or leaves in a simple vase. And for the kitchen, fresh herbs in a vase or a bowl of lemons or oranges will put a smile on anyone's face!

Now, get to work on making your home beautiful!

Great styling can make all the difference in any room. It can transform a space from blah to beautiful in no time at all. You can often use simple things you already have in your home. From books, to vases, to art, you can layer anything to achieve an eye catching vignette. I've rounded up a few great examples from one of my favorite past times, Pinterest.

A lovely piece of art leaning up against the wall adds a nice pop of color.

You can even make a simple breakfast look elegant and inviting.

This bar area is gorgeous with framed art, pretty drinkware, a gorgeous lamp and a bouquet of flowers.

This vignette by Phoebe Howard is divine.

I love the simplicity of a few topiaries.

Don't forget the bathroom. Place your bath salts in glass containers and your soap in a pretty dish.

I guess the saying goes that things come in waves of three.

For me, this week came in a wave of four and here's the latest...

The strap of my favorite Louis Vuitton got caught on a door handle last night. It's off to the local LV store to be sent out for repair today. Cha-ching!

The week started with the passing of my grandmother, she was 92. Truly one of the most remarkable women I have ever known. She and my grandfather built and owned a drive-in restaurant chain that they started in the 50's. She had an incredible work ethic and always spoke her mind. She was truly one of my biggest cheerleaders and I am forever grateful. I know she is having a great time in heaven with my mom and grandfather. Here are my grandparents with my mom on her wedding day to my dad.

My computer crashed. Enough said.

And, this baby girl had to go to the vet for inflammation in her mouth. The labs came back fine, just a canker sore that caused swelling. I know, TMI. After a shot of an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory pills, Charlotte is on the mend and doing fine.

I don't think I've shown this photo of her before. This is from the day I brought her home from the breeder almost 9 years ago! Can you even believe how tiny she was? Only 1.5 pounds! Smaller than a kleenex box.

Thankfully, I'm ending the week with a client presentation this morning.

Mad For Marble

Marble... my favorite surface. I'm mean really, what's not to love? It's timeless, classic and chic. It can be used in traditional or modern settings and look absolutely stunning. When I specify countertops for clients for kitchens or baths, I always start with marble. If you take good care of it, you will love it forever. Yes, it's prone to scratches, stains and the possible chip here or there, but that just adds to its beauty and character. I rounded up a few kitchens I love showcasing the ever so popular marble.

In The Country

First off, thank you so much to everyone for your patience while I was without a computer for the last several days. I'm not even going to get into the details of the mess, but I am back in action on a brand new Mac and I am in serious L.O.V.E. Since I have and iPhone and iPad, it was about time I upgraded my PC to a Mac. What a difference it has already made in my life. I still have a lot to sort through and get everything as organized as I like, but in the end it will all be worth it!

Now onto today's post...

I'm very much a city girl. I love the convenience of having any store or place I need to get to in a very short distance. Whether it's a great cup of coffee, a favorite boutique or an incredible restaurant, I want it all to be available when I need it. I do admit that when I'm having a bad day, I've said I'm selling everything off and moving to the country. I know I won't actually do this, but it does sound nice at times. Less hustle and bustle and a simpler way of living. Perhaps a weekend home would better fit the bill.

Imagine a warm and cozy breakfast nook...

A charming kitchen with vegetable bins at your fingertips...

A bathroom with a door that leads out into a serene garden...

For the guests, a relaxing retreat...

A sunny spot to write my blog...

Of course, I'll need a chic stable. Heck, I'll even take the two kids as part of the package...

And, a stylish area to sit and relax with a nice cup of coffee or glass of wine...

Out of service

Well, I didn't lose power in the recent snow storm, but my computer crashed yesterday. The motherboard is down for the count! I ended up buying a new Mac today, so long PC, and Apple is working on transferring my data. Fingers crossed I'll be back up and running very soon. Blogging from my iPad today. Thank God for that! I'll be back soon with a new post and pretty photos! Thanks for your patience. xo

Let It Snow

This week has been filled with snow, snow and more snow. We have had more snow in the past few days than we normally get in an entire year! Seattle is know for it's rain, not so much for snow. Our city full of hills just can't cope with it all. On top of that, we had an ice storm for several hours this morning. The good news for me is that I still have power, so many have lost it and it may not be back on for several days. So, if you don't hear from me for a few days, you'll know why. Fingers crossed my power stays on!

I made this mini snowman yesterday on top of the six inches already on the outdoor table...

It's getting dark, so the color is a little off.

The snow was already up to Charlotte's belly early yesterday. Do you see the snowballs forming on her legs?

Here's Lily Cler. At least she's cozy with her sweatshirt on, but she doesn't like the snow one bit.

The icicles hanging from the house are over 2 feet long!

Needless to say, we are over it!

What a lovely surprise from Sherri from Inside Out Design. I'm honored that she included my office in her post on wallpaper. I'm still in love with it as much as the day I chose it. Tortilla Soup

The snow has started to fall in Seattle and nothing makes me happier than a nice hot bowl of my tortilla soup! I perfected my recipe over the years and this combination is so good. I made a nice big pot of it so I can enjoy it over the next few days. Not only does it taste delicious, it's so easy to make!

Marianne's Tortilla Soup

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons corn oil
12 white corn tortillas, coarsely chopped
6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 cup fresh tomato puree {approx. 2 large tomatoes}
1 cup fresh onion puree {approx. 2 medium onions}
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 bay leaves
1 (10-ounce can) tomato puree
2 quarts chicken broth
1 (14-ounce can) red enchilada sauce
1 (4-ounce can) diced green chilies
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cooked boneless skinless chicken breasts, shredded
1 cup half and half

Garnish:
Avocado, cubed
Sour Cream
Corn tortillas, cut into strips and fried in corn oil until crisp

Directions:
Heat oil in large soup pot on medium heat. Add garlic and chopped corn tortillas. Cook until tortillas are soft. Add fresh tomato and onion puree. Bring to boil. Add all other ingredients except half and half and bring to boil. Reduce to simmer, stirring frequently for 30 minutes. Add half and half, stir until incorporated. Ladle into bowls and garnish.

Annie Sloan

Remember the console/bookshelf I bought on Craigslist? I'm going to be painting it out in Annie Sloan chalk paint. This is not chalkboard paint, for those of you who aren't familiar. What's so amazing about this paint is that you don't have to sand, prime or do anything special to your surface before painting. I reached out to Ally last week who used it on a piece in her dining room and she assured me this paint is amazing! You can mix it with other colors to create your own color or simply use it straight out of the can.

I've chosen the color Paris Gray and am going to mix it with Old White. I found this guide on Pinterest and love the color variations. You can see the other color combinations here.

This is the current state of the piece, so I'll keep you posted on how it turns out!

I can't believe it's already Friday again. I made it through a very busy first week of the year, which is just the way I like things. I have a few photos to share today of what's been going on. You can also find a few that I posted from my desk here.

I scored this for my office on Craigslist! I have never bought anything on Craigslist before, but I picked up this for only $125 for my office and will be painted out in a gorgeous shade of gray. Most of all, I love the brass casters on each foot and the piece is very heavy and solid wood. It will hold my collection of design books, samples, etc. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

We'll end the week with my bouquet of pink roses in the living room. Love the pop of color they bring to these dreary Seattle days.

This year I'm making work at my desk more enjoyable by surrounding myself with things I love. I guess I tend to do that anyway, but here are a few touches that are making my days feel great.

I'm lighting my glassybaby, this one in sheer cream. I love the soft glow of the candle by my computer. I also purchased a bouquet of pink roses at Whole Foods and placed a single stem in a vase from France.

My new mousepad, thanks to the tip from Paula. It's a gorgeous gold and pink leather and I am in love!

I'm ending my days with a nice cup of tea. I adore my Hermes teacup I bought myself a few years ago.

Hello 2012

It's my first day back to work in my office after a restful holiday break. I did pop in on the blog a few times {knew I couldn't stay away too long} and had a great time with family and friends. I must say I got quite a bit done around the house last week, too! I cleaned out my files, organized the pantry and donated items I no longer use or need. It feels good to start the New Year with a fresh palette.

I'm not one to make resolutions, but I do like to make some goals for myself. Most of them pertain to my interior design business, but others are to travel more and simply just savor living in the moment. I think this year holds a lot of great things and I cannot wait to take you along in my journey!

I can't believe it's the end of 2011. It has been a great year, but I predict 2012 will be even better!

I thought I'd take a moment to look back at my year and share a few highlights.

I didn't take as many trips as I had hoped, but did have a few memorable ones.

My favorite was my trip to Maui with my niece for her graduation gift. We had the most amazing time! Wish I was there right now. I could really use some warmth and sunshine!

We miss you Four Seasons! Dont' worry, I'll be back!

My nephew would like this same trip when he graduates in 2 years.

I finally took my first trip to High Point Market.

And, even spent time in my own city.

cinnamon rolls

I thought I'd share the cinnamon rolls I made for Christmas morning with you before the New Year. I don't know about you, but I'll be needing a major sugar detox come 2012. This recipe is from Ree, aka The Pioneer Woman, and they are divine! Have you made them before? I prefer them without the icing to cut back on the sugary sweetness, but for those who love icing, load it on!

Note: I cut this recipe in half and it made 5 pans!

INGREDIENTS:
1 quart Whole Milk
1 cup Vegetable Oil
1 cup Sugar
2 packages Active Dry Yeast, 0.25 Ounce Packets
8 cups (Plus 1 Cup Extra, Separated) All-purpose Flour
1 teaspoon (heaping) Baking Powder
1 teaspoon (scant) Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon (heaping) Salt
Plenty Of Melted Butter
2 cups Sugar
Generous Sprinkling Of Cinnamon

MAPLE FROSTING:
1 bag Powdered Sugar
2 teaspoons Maple Flavoring
1/2 cup Milk
1/4 cup Melted Butter
1/4 cup Brewed Coffee
1/8 teaspoon Salt

For the dough, heat the milk, vegetable oil, and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat to just below a boil. Set aside and cool to warm. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit on the milk for 1 minute.

Add 8 cups of the flour. Stir until just combined, then cover with a clean kitchen towel, and set aside in a relatively warm place for 1 hour. After 1 hour, remove the towel and add the baking powder, baking soda, salt, and the remaining 1 cup flour. Stir thoroughly to combine. Use the dough right away, or place in a mixing bowl and refrigerate for up to 3 days, punching down the dough if it rises to the top of the bowl. (Note: dough is easier to work with if it’s been chilled for at least an hour or so beforehand.)

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

To assemble the rolls, remove half the dough from the pan/bowl. On a floured baking surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 30 x 10 inches. The dough should be rolled very thin.

To make the filling, pour 3/4 cup to 1 cup of the melted butter over the surface of the dough. Use your fingers to spread the butter evenly. Generously sprinkle half of the ground cinnamon and 1 cup of the sugar over the butter. Don’t be afraid to drizzle on more butter or more sugar! Gooey is the goal.

Now, beginning at the end farthest from you, roll the rectangle tightly towards you. Use both hands and work slowly, being careful to keep the roll tight. Don’t worry if the filling oozes as you work; that just means the rolls are going to be divine. When you reach the end, pinch the seam together and flip the roll so that the seam is face down. When you’re finished, you’ll wind up with one long buttery, cinnamony, sugary, gooey log.

Slip a cutting board underneath the roll and with a sharp knife, make 1/2-inch slices. One “log “will produce 20 to 25 rolls. Pour a couple of teaspoons of melted butter into disposable foil cake pans and swirl to coat. Place the sliced rolls in the pans, being careful not to overcrowd. (Each pan will hold 7 to 9 rolls.)

Repeat the rolling/sugar/butter process with the other half of the dough and more pans. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Cover all the pans with a kitchen towel and set aside to rise on the counter top for at least 20 minutes before baking. Remove the towel and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden brown. Don’t allow the rolls to become overly brown.

While the rolls are baking, make the maple icing: In a large bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, butter, coffee, and salt. Splash in the maple flavoring. Whisk until very smooth. Taste and add in more maple, sugar, butter, or other ingredients as needed until the icing reaches the desired consistency. The icing should be somewhat thick but still very pourable.

Remove pans from the oven. Immediately drizzle icing over the top. Be sure to get it all around the edges and over the top. As they sit, the rolls will absorb some of the icing’s moisture and flavor. They only get better with time… not that they last for more than a few seconds.

My Christmas Baking

Last Friday, I mentioned I'd be spending the weekend baking with my sister. That would be 2 straight days of baking and candy making. We listen to Christmas music, laugh a lot, and are amazed at how much sugar and butter is used each year. Trust me, you don't even want to know! This has been a tradition in my family for well over 65 years. It goes way back. This year we made 20 different varieties. That may sound like a lot, but to us it's not that many. In years past, we were known to make over 50 different things, but we had my mom helping and she is no longer with us. We give them all away, although I do admit we eat our fair share of them, too!

The cookies get wrapped in waxed tissue and boxed up in kraft brown boxes. This year I used simple bakers twine, a sprig of boxwood and a pretty tag to top them off.

It may be exhausting, but we have so much fun!

'Enchanted' is how you will feel today after reading more about one of my favorite bloggers, Tina from The Enchanted Home. Please tell my you have all been reading her gorgeous blog! Surely your jaw has been dropping as you have watched her build her dream home. To say it is spectacular is an understatement. In fact, Tina happens to be one of the most humble and kind bloggers out there. Not only does Tina take us on her journey of building her dream home, she also shares some beautiful design inspiration and fabulous finds along the way! Doesn't get much better than that, my friends!

Best vacation: This is hard because I have been lucky to have gone on some seriously amazing ones, but think my favorite with my family was when we went to Hawaii for almost 2 blissful weeks and the best trip with just my hubby and I was to Napa Valley, totally utter relaxation!

Dogs are cats: Most definitely dogs, cats kind of scare me. Besides, Teddy is "the bomb"!

My Week In Photos

I can't believe it's already Friday! If you're counting... Christmas is only 9 days away! 9 days!!! Tonight I'm off to another party and as I mentioned the other day, I'll be baking for 2 days straight this weekend with my sister. I swear, it's harder than my day job! Much harder. I'll be sharing my sweet creations with you all next week, so come hungry!

I sent these cards to my clients this year. Gotta love Rifle Paper Co.

Tis' the season for indulgence. The best coconut pie I've ever had. I've had it countless times over the years and it is the creation of Tom Douglas, famous restaurateur in Seattle. The one we went to, Cuoco, doesn't have it on their menu, but we requested it and they sent over the whole pie from another location!

Talk about great service!

I attended a charity event at one of the most beautiful Seattle homes. I fell in love with her privacy wall surrounding her home. Hope no one saw me take a photo. Isn't it lovely?!

Seattle loves to decorate all of the cranes around the city for Christmas. Can you spy the Space Needle in the background? They also form a tree at the top with lights. Too bad the tree branch is in the way.

Making Spirits Bright

Is Christmas really 12 days away? Hard to believe. This week has already been crazy to say the least. Last night I attended the most amazing event, the Seattle Men's Chorus. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen during the holidays. If you live in the Seattle area, be sure to check them out. They will absolutely move you. Tonight I have a dear friend coming over for appetizers and champagne, another party to go to on Friday night and then it's a weekend of baking with my sister. My Holiday Decor: Part II

I hope everyone had a great weekend and that you're all getting in the holiday spirit! Today, I'm sharing Part II of my holiday decor. You can see Part I from last Friday here. I realized I didn't post my dining room last week with the rest of the photos, so it's getting a little special attention today. This is my only eating area in the house, except for the bar stools in my kitchen, so this room gets used every single day.

My centerpiece is two strands of garland put together. It's the only faux greenery I have, but was called for on my table which I inherited from my grandmother. I did not want sticky tree sap to ruin the table. I incorporated some vintage silver candlesticks, my new glassybaby's I bought for Thanksgiving as well as my mercury glass votives.

I hung two small fresh wreaths on the doors with a gorgeous silver silk ribbon.

I had a request to see my mantle with the stockings close up. We each have our first initial hung with our stockings. Santa needs to know these things.

My paperwhites are starting to bloom! So excited! These are in my office.

And, the smell is intoxicating!

My Holiday Decor

What a week it's been! Busy, busy with clients, cards got in the mail, decorated the house, outside lights are up and hosted my annual party. I guess I'm making up for lost time since last week I was sick. This weekend there's no stopping as I'm off shopping, having dinner with friends and going to a performance of the Seattle Men's Chorus. Like I said, this month is a wild ride!

My tree. It glows like the mother ship! I have been collecting ornaments for over 20 years, all in silver and glass/crystal. I don't even have half of them on. I got tired. In case you're wondering, it's a real tree.

I decorated my sideboard with simple European trees and a silver bowl of pine cones.

My little village. I've been buying these the day after Christmas the last few years. Love their vintage vibe.

A better photo in the daylight. You can see my mantle and our stockings hung by the chimney with care.

Brown paper packages tied up with string... these are a few of my favorite things! Yes, it's my dogs advent calendar on the family room mantle. I do one every year for them. Each bag has a treat that they get before bedtime. Yep, crazy dog lady here. I got this year's idea from the lovely Annie. Hers puts mine to shame.

And finally, a glimpse at my outdoor lights.

Tagging It

Sorry to say I won't be doing my usual Friday, My Week In Photos, post today. I have been sick all week long and didn't take one photo! After suffering with the flu earlier in the week, I came down with a horrible head cold on Wednesday. I am rarely sick and to get both in one week put me down for the count. So, today I'm sharing some pretty gift tag ideas.

I think I'm going to attempt these this year. I love the use of natural elements like boxwood and rosemary.

A simple tag looks nice, too!

And, while I don't decorate with red, I do like this package with the kraft brown tags and white lettering.

I'm getting my tree today and will finally start decorating my house this weekend. I feel so behind this year! Wishing you all a great weekend!

Recovery

I think I'm finally on the mend from spending the last few days with the flu. Unfortunately, it's been going around and this year it caught up with me. Even with the flu shot, it's no guarantee that you will escape the bug. All I can say is that I've spent more time in the bathroom than I care to admit and we'll leave it at that. Sounds like the perfect segue into looking at some pretty bathrooms, don't you think?! How appropriate!

Now I'm feeling better!

My Week In Photos

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I think most of us are probably still in a food coma, but certainly had a great time sharing it with family and friends. Finally getting my final load of dishes in the dishwasher and it feels so good! Here's what went down this week...

Took a day trip to Portland, OR to meet with a client. A long day, but so much fun! Can't wait to show you more of the project in the future!

Loving Suzanne Kasler's new fabric line for Lee Jofa. This pattern, Montmartre, comes in several color ways. I was lucky enough to have Suzanne personally show this to me at High Point Market and snapped this photo at my design center this week. Isn't it gorgeous?!

Charlotte enjoying some window time in the car. Little did she know she was on her way to get her teeth cleaned! They are sparkly white now!

Glassybaby. I bought two new ones for my Thanksgiving Table, and loved looking at all the colors they had on display in their store.

My Thanksgiving Table

Did you know Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday? I really do love it so much. Cooking is such a passion of mine and I guess you could call Thanksgiving the Superbowl for me. Bring it on! This years table is what I like to call casual elegance. I am so happy with how it turned out and can't wait to share it with my guests. This year there will be 7 of us for dinner and then for dessert a few of my neighbors are stopping by after their guests go home. They always tell me, 'we know we're going to have a great meal if we come to your house'. What a nice compliment from great friends! And in case you're wondering... yes, I cook it all and it brings me so much joy!

The table linens are from Williams-Sonoma. I swear that store is my guilty pleasure. The plates and silverware are from Pottery Barn and the glassware from Crate & Barrel and Macy's.

I did the centerpiece arrangement myself from a few bouquets I purchased at Trader Joe's! Dare I say they had a much better selection than Whole Foods?! You really can't beat their prices either at $5.99 a bouquet! I cut the stems short and arranged them in floral foam in a pedestal bowl to elevate them from the table just a bit. I love the colors and are the perfect accent to my neutral table.

I also love the natural element of the wheat with the kraft paper brown place cards I purchased from Michaels. I used a white gel pen to write each guests name. Thanks for the great idea, Camille!

I purchased two new glassybaby votives, one for each end of the table in the color 'sheer cream'. They go so well with any combination, so I know I will get a lot of use out of them throughout the year. I paired them with a few gold mercury glass votives from Michaels.

I have so much to be grateful for this year. I am blessed to have the most amazing family and friends around me, two of the sweetest fur babies a person could ask for, a job I love so much that I can't believe I actually get paid to do every day and for wonderful readers like you who continue to inspire me on a daily basis.

This week seemed to fly by! I can't believe it's already Friday. Where does the time go? Anyway, I got a great response when I started 'My Week In Photos' series last week, so today I offer you this week's installment. If you missed last week, you can read it here.

Typical Seattle day. Although, the Space Needle normally is not leaning. Just blame the photographer, which would be me!

Snapped this one from a magazine, not sure which one, but thought it looked like a really good and easy appetizer for Thanksgiving or any day for that matter.

Was shopping for some antique pulls at a local shop and fell for these fab door knockers.

Back to food... have you tried this chocolate bar? Chocolove is oh, so good! You can buy them at Whole Foods. Warning, can also be addicting!

This one is for Monika. We went to an event last weekend together and she fell for this crow painting. Pretty charming for a crow, don't you think?!

Around The House: Paperwhites

It's that time of year to plant your paperwhite bulbs in time for Christmas blooms! I love the way these darling white flowers smell when they are in full bloom. So fresh, clean and inviting. Each year I plant them in clear glass containers so I can see them in all their glory. All you need are bulbs, containers and a small bag of pea gravel that you can pick up at your local hardware store. I find the vessels with taller sides allows for them to stay more upright and not fall over as much when they grow taller.

I'm starting a new series titled, My Week In Photos. I will be sharing a few snapshots from my week with you each Friday. Thought this would give you a glimpse into my life, what inspires me, or what I'm working on. Hmmm, it looks like this week I have a lot of food and beverage photos. 'Tis the season!

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Starbucks. Doesn't get any better than this. Trust me!

Met up with friends at Bottlehouse in Seattle for some wine and cheese. They have the most charming decor. Isn't the wallpaper and vintage wine rack gorgeous!

Oh, yeah... here's the artisan cheese plate we ate. We actually had to order a second one!

Charlotte has taken over the cashmere throw and pillow on the sofa. Smart girl!

I love the vibrant colors of leaves this time of year.

I have always been one to notice details. From the stitching on a pillow, the way a flower falls in a vase, the way a ribbon is tied on a package or a pattern on a garden gate, I tend to take it all in. I'm drawn to it, I crave it and I am inspired by it. Sometimes the simplest of things can be displayed in the most captivating way. Is not necessarily the object, but the texture, the color, the weight of it, or the way it reflects light. Beauty is all around us!

Island Living

Unfortunately, I'm not talking about tropical islands, although it does sound nice now that the weather is hitting highs in the 40's these days. Brrrrr! If you have been reading my blog for a little while, you may remember a post I did on my own kitchen. It is not large in size, but I've managed to make it functional. One thing on my wish list {would have to be for a future house} is a nice big kitchen island. I love to cook and bake and could really use the extra space to spread my things out. I've rounded up some images of kitchen islands I love. Which one is your favorite?

High Point Market - Part 3

Today, I'm wrapping up my tour of High Point Market. Hope you've enjoyed the tour so far! I must say I was fortunate enough to get a reservation at the O.Henry Hotel. It was such an amazing experience.

Here's my ride to and from the hotel. Aren't their London taxi's darling?! My driver, Bob, was full of southern charm. Love that!

We ate at Print Works Bistro, which is in their sister hotel, Proximity. It was gorgeous! If you ever go there, you must get the Truffle Fries. They also serve them at the O.Henry. Now, I must get my hands on the recipe! Imagine... french fries with truffle oil, herbs de Provence and saffron rouille. Am I making you hungry? I can't believe I didn't take a picture of them. After all, we did eat them every day! Shhh, don't tell.

Moving on to more furniture and accessories...

You can never go wrong with pillows from Dransfield & Ross. Just a few of my favorites.

Ryan Studio has some amazing poufs. Perfect for so many rooms in the home.

Another fan favorite is Tritter Feefer. Love their selection of side tables and desks.

Some great accessories. I'd be happy to take them all!

For all of the dog lovers out there, Trowbridge had an incredible collection. So charming!

High Point Market - Part 2

We are now moving on to High Point Market, Part 2. I knew you would all fall in love with the Oly showroom from my last post. It was off the charts gorgeous. Today, I'm going to share some other fun things I spotted at market. Hope you enjoy this round of goodness as well!

One of the highlights of the trip was meeting one of my all-time favorite designers, Suzanne Kasler. She was at the Hickory Chair showroom and was such a pleasure to meet in person. Of course, I told her how much I admire her and her new design book! She shared some new fabrics with me that she recently launched for Lee Jofa. They are so beautiful. I know, another bad iPhone photo, but at least I got one with her. My camera battery died and I forgot to pack the charger.

If you have ever been to the Hickory Chair showroom at High Point, you'll know how unbelievable the place is. The most stunning pieces under one roof! I was lucky enough to have attended a party they had one night and met the most amazing people from the company. Loved them all so much! Yes, I am truly blessed to be in this business.

Moving on to some of the Hickory Chair furniture... Trust me when I say this Tuxedo Bar Cabinet was A-MAZ-ING in person! Yep, it's from Suzanne's collection!

As were these Lille Benches, also designed by Suzanne. I WANT these so badly!

Another favorite showroom at market, Visual Comfort. It blows your mind to see it all in person! So, does this lamp look familiar to you all? It's the Gourd lamp I order for my office back in August and it's still on backorder until late December!!!! This is the large version, so I'll let this one pass since I ordered the smaller size.

May have to get this Scallop chandie for a bedroom in the house. Looks even better in person!

And, here's a new fixture that was introduced at market. Isn't it lovely?!

Who loves Bungalow5? I know I do and here are a few pretties from their showroom. I have always loved the Jacqui side tables and these may also make it into my home. The gold ring pulls are divine!

High Point Market - Part 1

I'm going to be breaking down High Point Market into a few different parts. Otherwise, I would have one extremely long post and most of you would pass out on your keyboards before even getting half way through. Today, I'm sharing the Oly showroom with you. It is GORGEOUS from the second you walk in. So much that you don't ever want to leave.

Here I am taking a rest. I know, I look incredibly tired. It was day three after all. I swear I wanted to take a very long nap on that gorgeous Hanna daybed. Their accessories are off the charts amazing!

Back From High Point Market

I am back from High Point Market and had the most incredible time! I'll be breaking it down over the next few posts, so stay tuned for a whole lot of pretty. I have so many photos to go through and cannot wait to share them with you. Plus, I have a lot of catching up to do on your blogs too!

I feel so lucky to have spent my trip hanging out with my dear friend, Traci Zeller. We toured more showrooms than I ever thought possible and still only saw a very small fraction of what was there. Our poor feet were sure tired by the end of each day, but it was all so worth it!

Weekend Plans

Thank you all so much for your kind birthday wishes yesterday. This weekend the celebration continues with a family party on Saturday and brunch with a friend on Sunday. Funny how birthdays tend to turn into week long celebrations. I also plan on doing a little baking. Pumpkin bread with a delicious pumpkin butter is on the agenda. It's one of my all time favorite fall treats and I'll be sure to share it with you next week. Hope your weekend is filled with some of your own fall favorites!

It's hard to believe I am 42 today. All I can say is the older you get the faster time flies. I may be young to some of you and old to others, but to me, age is just a number. I certainly don't feel it and most say I don't even look it {thank God for good genes}. So, as I blow out the candles on another year, I am grateful for my family, friends and each and every one of you who inspire, encourage and amaze me every single day.

Have you ever thought about open shelving in the bathroom? I did another post about it here. This is just another great example of how it can work for you. Love the wire baskets for towels, a spot of fragrance bottles, wrapped soaps and a small mirror. I guess if you're spending some additional time in there, you could grab a book from the top shelf.

This also caught my eye. Do you think my grandmother would mind if I use her silver sugar and creamer she gave me for cotton balls and q-tips? I think it's brilliant and may give it a try!

Around The House

I don't know about you, but I am so happy it's Friday. What a week it has been. I had a horrible head cold the first part of the week and spent a few days in bed. Happy to report I have recovered, just in time for the weekend.

Thought I'd show you a little vignette in my house since I have been getting some requests to see more of it. This is in my family room off the kitchen. What you see is the extent of my Halloween decor. Yep, a lonely white pumpkin. I stopped by a fruit stand the other day and they had a huge crate of them. It's always hard to find one that's a good shape and with a good stem. I did manage to tie a black and white stripe ribbon around it to give it some style.

Believe it or not, the pumpkin actually weighs more than Charlotte!

Halloween Dessert Buffet

I love this Halloween Dessert Buffet designed by local Seattle food blogger, Heather Christo. She is incredibly talented and makes everything look extraordinary. Take a look for yourself and I think you'll agree. Isn't it just spectacular?!

She used small mason jars for red velvet cake and topped them with toasted marshmallow fluff. So creative!

She also glittered plastic inexpensive spider rings to add to the decor...

Plan Ahead

I know it's only the first of October, but I have already purchased my 2012 calendar. Don't hate me, because I usually have my Christmas cards ordered by Halloween too! Even though I have an iPhone and an iPad to keep me nice and organized, I have always purchased a pretty paper calendar to grace the wall. I don't write on it, I just use it as a quick reference. This years purchase is from Rifle Paper Co. So happy my local Paper Source store had it in stock!

This is my kind of dining room. It's inviting, casual, chic and classic. One you can use every day, not just for special occasions and holidays. I don't have a formal dining room in my own house, so this one really speaks to me. I'm drawn to the linen chairs, rustic table, simple place settings and the classic lantern. I think the kitchen looks pretty amazing too!

In The Red

I have to admit, I'm not a red person. I don't own anything in this color... not a sweater, scarf, lipstick and not even a Christmas ornament in red. It's not that I don't like the color, it's just not me. I will say that I am in L.O.V.E. with this darling red book nook for kids! I can just imagine little ones spending hours here reading to their little hearts content. Isn't it perfect?! Since I don't have kids, who wants to hire me to design a space like this one?
